We can’t wait to share the joy of mud cloth inspired batiking with you at The Wynwood Yard! It’s our second year in the special space near Della’s Kitchen. Come explore the simple, fun and therapeutic process of Mud Cloth inspired Batiking with friends on your happy hour.

Come learn how to create your very own mud cloth inspired scarf using the batik method of wax resistance and dyeing with Munirah from Teratai Malaysia.

Using templates of different simple geometric patterns we will guide in waxing your very own scarf and then help you dye that scarf in your color of choice!

Join us for a Batik Scarf (Cotton) Painting Workshop

Batik is the art of decorating cloth using wax and dye and which has been practiced for centuries. This Batik Scarf workshop is a perfect introduction to experiment with colors using non-toxic fabric dyes, learn a new craft and produce your own wearable cotton masterpiece.

Munirah will provide you with all the supplies needed and will guide you all the way through the 2.5 hour workshop. A variety of patterns will be available on a first-come first-serve basis or Student can request a specific theme or design to paint via email at [email protected]

Limited to 15 students so pre-registration suggested.
Minimum: 5 students
Cost: $45/ person
$50 parent + child (1 scarf)

Plan a date with your girlfriends or treat yourself to a creative textile workshop combining Batik and Mud Cloth on January 21st.

Mud cloth – also called ‘bogolan’ – is one of Africa’s most unusual and unique textiles. The usual pattern of geometric lines and dots, in high contrast of black and white, is the look.

In this 2.5 hour workshop, we will be designing and creating the mud cloth ‘look’ through wax-resist (batiking) and dyeing technique (dye bath)

This is an easy, fun and interesting class to create wearable art or decorative fabric.

Join us as we combine the aromas of essential oils with the art of batik. Like meditation, the art of batik centers the mind and liberates the heart (through creativity).

This workshop will also use the benefits of essential oils to increase your level of relaxation and mindfulness. Using aromatic oils that make you feel positive, relaxed or euphoric, you can create a mental environment where your creativity can flourish.

Batik is a wax resist technique used to create designs and patterns on fabric throughout South East Asia, India, Russia and Africa. You will be painting on a 16”x16” Cotton handkerchief to take home. You will have 3 beautiful designs to choose from. Please click the link to check them out.

After batiking, you will blend a customized essential oil rollerball for your personal use after class.

All supplies provided. This class is for adults of of all artistic skill levels.
