I can’t wait for you to be immersed in the beautiful and magical world of batik that many say is meditative. You will get to explore Batik art with a Malaysian Artist, practice waxing, dyeing, and designing using vibrant colors on 100% cotton fabric. No art experience necessary.
You will be painting a pre-designed Batik scarf or with at least 48 hours notice you can request a custom design by sending an image for Munirah to prep for your batik painting experience.
You will learn all about batiking from the history to the process and techniques from around the world – we can get as advanced or stay as simple as you want.
You will observe intricate tjanting techniques and get familiar with the Tjanting tool. Get hands-on and add what you learn to your batik piece. The painting process is relaxing and truly is the best part of your experience. I will provide you full guidance from start to finish.
After class, Munirah will remove the wax and will deliver your hand painted scarf while you’re still in town or mail it to your home address. A wonderful, one of a kind, Miami vacation souvenir without having to fly 10,000 miles to Malaysia.

You’ll be amazed at how much fun making batik can be! You will get to explore and design your own batik fabric as a souvenir or gift to take home.
You will make a set of 4 batik cotton serviettes (napkins) in 2 1/2 hours. Choose from several batik caps (the stamps used to apply the wax) to create and express your creativity in designing patterns on your napkins. Once the fabric is dyed in the color of your choice, you will learn about the traditional wax removal process.
My workshops are not only fun… you’ll also learn about the history of batik, use and get familiar with traditional tools in batik fabric making and gain an appreciation of traditional handmade batik.
Immerse in Malaysia’s cultural heritage all in Miami. Workshops like this helps preserve an ancient tradition and you will proudly go home with your handmade batik gifts.
